Frequently Asked Questions
Find quick answers about our services, booking process, wet belt overhauls, and recovery operations.
Where is K66 Motors located?
We are located at 28A McGowan Street, Shortroods, Paisley, PA3 1QJ, Scotland. Our workshop is easily accessible from Glasgow and surrounding Renfrewshire areas.
What are your workshop and recovery hours?
Our physical workshop on McGowan Street is open Monday to Friday: 8:00 AM - 6:00 PM and Saturday: 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM (closed Sundays). However, our emergency breakdown recovery service operates 24 Hours a day, 7 Days a week.
Do I need to book in advance, or do you accept walk-ins?
For servicing, diagnostics, and major repairs (like engine rebuilds or wet belt replacements), we recommend booking in advance to secure a slot. However, for tyre replacement, puncture repairs, and emergency recovery drop-offs, we accept walk-ins during business hours.
What is a Ford EcoBoost 'Wet Belt' and why does it need specialist care?
Unlike traditional dry timing belts, a 'wet belt' runs inside the engine oil crankcase to reduce friction and fuel consumption. It requires strict adherence to specific oil formulations (Ford WSS-M2C948-B). Using the wrong oil or neglecting oil changes causes the belt to degrade and shed rubber fibers. These fibers clog the oil pump pickup strainer, starving the engine of lubrication and leading to total engine seizure. K66 Motors is a certified specialist in wet belt retrofits, drop-sump cleaning, and engine restorations.
How do I know if my wet belt is failing?
Common warning signs include: (1) An illuminated oil pressure warning lamp on your dashboard (especially at idle), (2) A sluggish starting action, (3) A rattle or ticking noise from the front of the engine, or (4) Rubber debris visible inside the oil filter housing during a service. If your oil light flashes, turn off the engine immediately and call us.
What engine oil must be used for Ford 1.0 EcoBoost engines?
You must only use oil that matches Ford's exact WSS-M2C948-B specification (5W-20 grade). Using generic 5W-30 or standard synthetic oils will cause the rubber timing belt to swell and disintegrate within thousands of miles, destroying the engine.
How does your 24/7 recovery service work?
If you break down, call our dedicated mobile dispatch line at 0748 824 5917. We operate flatbed recovery trucks and will send a driver to your location. If a simple roadside fix (like jump-starting or tyre swapping) isn't possible, we will safely load your vehicle and transport you and your passengers directly to our Paisley workshop or your home.
What areas do you cover for recovery?
We cover all of Paisley, Renfrewshire, Greater Glasgow, East Renfrewshire, Inverclyde, and surrounding Scottish Central Belt motorways, including the M8, A737, M77, and M74.
What is your mobile battery service and what is battery regeneration?
Our Mobile Battery Service brings diagnostics and repairs to your location. If your car sits idle or is only driven on short trips, lead sulfate crystals build up on the internal battery plates (sulfation), preventing it from holding a charge. Instead of selling you a new battery, we use advanced electronic desulfation equipment on-site to break down the crystals and regenerate your old battery, saving you up to 70% of the replacement cost.
Do you carry out official MOT tests?
We perform complete MOT pre-checks and coordinate official MOT testing through our local partner testing centers. If your vehicle fails, we carry out all required repair work (brakes, suspension, welding, emissions) on-site and arrange a free retest.
My car failed its MOT at another garage. Can you perform the repairs?
Yes! Bring us your VT30 refusal certificate. We will give you an itemized quote, perform all necessary structural or mechanical repairs to MOT standards, and coordinate the retest.
Will servicing my car at K66 Motors void my manufacturer's warranty?
No. Under EU Block Exemption regulations (retained in UK law), independent garages can service vehicles without voiding the manufacturer's warranty, provided they use original equipment-matching parts and follow the manufacturer's service schedule. We update digital service records and protect your warranty at a fraction of main dealer rates.
What is the difference between an Interim and a Full service?
An Interim Service (recommended every 6 months or 6,000 miles) is a minor service focusing on oil and filter replacement, fluid top-ups, and a basic brake/suspension inspection. A Full Service (recommended every 12 months or 12,000 miles) is a major service that includes oil, air, pollen, and fuel filters, spark plug replacement, alternator/battery checks, and a comprehensive 50-point safety check on the lift.
Why does my car air conditioning need regassing in winter?
Air conditioning does not just cool the air—it removes moisture. Running your AC in winter clears condensation and demists your windscreen much faster than normal heaters. Additionally, the refrigerant gas contains lubricants that keep the compressor seals from drying out and leaking. Regular use prevents gas leaks and component failure.
Do you recharge the new R1234yf air con gas?
Yes. We operate specialized equipment to recharge both older R134a systems and newer R1234yf systems, which are mandatory in vehicles built after 2017.
My check engine light is on. Can I still drive, and what is your diagnostic scan?
If the check engine light is amber, you can drive but should book a diagnostic scan soon. If the light is red or flashing, you must pull over and turn off the engine to prevent damage. Our diagnostic scan plugs dealer-level computers into your vehicle's ECU to read fault codes and analyze live sensor data to identify the exact issue.
Why is wheel alignment important after suspension repairs?
Replacing suspension parts like shock absorbers, coil springs, or control arms changes the steering geometry. Proper laser wheel alignment (tracking) adjusts the wheels to manufacturer specifications, preventing rapid tyre wear, pulling to one side, and excess fuel consumption.
What brands of parts and tyres do you stock?
We stock and fit parts from leading OEM brands like Bosch, Brembo, Pagid, Exide, and Yuasa. For tyres, we stock budget, mid-range, and premium brands, including Michelin, Continental, Goodyear, and Pirelli.
Do you offer warranties on parts and repairs?
Yes. All our mechanical repairs and replacements are backed by a minimum 12-Month / 12,000-mile parts and labor warranty, giving you peace of mind.
